Many people think of fasting as a long term period of not eating for political or religious reasons. (This is normally a terrible process for a person's fitness!) Short term fasting is easy. Simply choose one or two alternate days a week and abstain from eating. Think about it. Eat a sensible meal at 6pm and then drink water until the next evening meal at 6pm.

You receive the results of burning an entire one to two days worth of calories from your diet and continue to have plenty of energy to exercise. You're effectively burning calories at twice the rate! This strategy works so well that some might think they can eat huge amount of food on their non-fasting days. Please don't! You still want to have restraint and maintain a sensible portion control for those days. Don't worry, most people report not feeling a need to pig out on their non-fasting days anyways.

Even more, medical studies have shown that you actually increase your energy levels and step up your metabolism rate at the same time. This is the main drawback among folks who have tried a traditional fast. They would no longer maintain the energy to exercise, and while they might lose pounds, many times it would be muscle mass, which really defeats the process.

Fasting to lose weight action plan.

If you're new to short term fasting, be certain you start slowly, getting your body warmed up to skipping a day once a week, then perhaps two. You should also take it easy when exercising during this transition time, until you start to feel as though you can get back to your normal workout routine. It doesn't take long until you'll be ravenous for more, and I don't mean food!
